Rather than construct a new $4.4 million Department of Natural Resources building, the Town of Mashpee will seek to purchase two existing commercial bays on Mercantile Way for $850,000 to serve as a home base for the department.
In a meeting with the Mashpee Board of Selectmen on Monday, February 1, Town Manager Rodney C. Collins presented the Mercantile Way site as an alternative to an earlier proposal to construct a new facility on Red Brook Road.
âIs it as ideal as a $4.4 million facility? No, itâs not,â Mr. Collins said. âBut I would much rather spend $850,000 versus $4.4 million, especially since we are walking into a turnkey building that is brand new and we donât have to do anything down at Red Brook Road.â
