we get animals in that are literally skin and bones. we nurse them back to health. we resocialize them. we get them used to being around people. and once their court case is cleared, we take actual ownership of the animal, we adopt them out to a good home. good boy. the animals are cared for by inmate workers who have no history of animal abuse. male inmates take care of the horses and other farm animals. we get accused of standing around scratching our ass all day here at m.a.s.h. unit. best job on the yard. female inmates handle the dogs and cats. i bond more with the dogs here than any of the girls on the yard. what i like best about the dog s is they don t argue with everything that you say like the inmates do. abigail, calm down. you know, i m very strong on animal cruelty. anybody that violates or abuses animals goes directly to jail. i don t give them a ticket.

and cry when i seen her come in. the m.a.s.h. unit is set up for the inmates to take care of the animals. but sometimes the animals take care of the inmates. you re a good girl. loomis says caring for the horses has helped him cope with the anger problems with brought him to jail. i m bipolar and i m also diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder syndrome. i stopped taking my medications and i started going off and blowing up at home. i m starting to lose my temper, starting to do things that i normally don t do. and next thing i know, the cops are at my door and i m getting arrested for domestic violence and criminal damage. and now i m here doing my time. my mom owns race horses. she is a training owner. it s a loving, caring thing. you know. she babies the horses like they were little babies and i learned to do the same thing. you got to have love and care for them. if you don t, what good is something if you can t really show it love?
