The organizers of a fireworks display planned in St. Marys on New Years Eve, one of the few in Southwestern Ontario moving ahead during the ongoing provincewide shutdown, are stressing the show is meant strictly for town residents to enjoy from home.
“The province has asked us not to travel, so we feel pretty strongly that this is an event that can be just enjoyed locally,” Mayor Al Strathdee said Tuesday, adding he’s “100 per cent” confident the display won’t lead to any large gatherings. “It’s something we want everyone in the local area to be able to enjoy. Apparently if it’s a clear night, you should be able to see it from quite a ways away.”
