The University of Maryland Marlene and Stewart Greenebaum Comprehensive Cancer Center (UMGCCC) has earned renewal of its National Cancer Institute (NCI) designation as a Comprehensive Cancer Center for another five years. The prestigious distinction recognizes the cancer center’s high caliber of scientific leadership and robust programs in basic, clinical, and population science research, placing it in the top echelon of cancer centers nationwide.

As a regional medical care network that serves the midshore region of the Eastern Shore, including Caroline, Dorchester, Kent, Queen Anne’s and Talbot counties, the University of Maryland Shore Regional Health (UMSRH) has had its hands full during the pandemic.
But according to President and CEO Kenneth Kozel, the organization has met the challenge.
“From my perspective, Shore Regional Health’s biggest success in responding to the pandemic has been our ability to fulfill our role as the anchor institution in the communities we serve,” Kozel said.
“In Maryland’s rural midshore, our populations are small, we are geographically dispersed and have very limited resources,” he added. “Nevertheless, UMSRH has recognized the need for innovation, integration and team work and we have taken the lead to address the challenges our community has faced.
