Lucas Alexander Hartman, 24, of Westminster, pleaded guilty to first-degree murder in the shooting death of his father two years ago and was sentenced May 3 in Carroll County Circuit Court to 40 years in prison.

A man was charged with murder in the fatal shooting of his father Saturday in Westminster, the Carroll County Sheriff s Office said.
The Sheriff s Office said deputies were called at 12:44 p.m. Saturday to a house in the 100 block of Marydell Drive, where a 49-year-old man was shot in the chest. Paramedics treated the man at the scene, but he was pronounced dead around 1:38 p.m.
The Sheriff s Office identified the victim Sunday as Stephen Hartman, and said his 21-year-old son, Lucas Hartman, was charged with first-degree murder and a gun charge.
Detectives continue to investigate the events leading up to the shooting. Lucas Hartman remains in custody at the Carroll County Detention Center.
