On April 9, Gov. Andy Beshear announced the appointment of Col. Phillip Burnett Jr. as commissioner of the Kentucky State Police (KSP).
âI believe in Commissioner Burnettâs ability to lead KSP into the future,â said Gov. Beshear. âHe is already working to increase recruitment and create a more diverse workforce, which is crucial to fulfilling our stateâs law enforcement duties.â
During a ceremony at the Capitol, with his family in attendance, Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Mary C. Noble swore in Commissioner Burnett.
Commissioner Burnett pledged to continue working with communities across the commonwealth to protect and serve Kentuckians with honor and dignity.

Andy Beshear and the Kentucky State Police (KSP) are taking time this week to acknowledge and celebrate National Public Safety Telecommunicators Week (April 11-17), a time set aside to recognize the more than 200,000 individuals throughout the United States who play critical roles in the delivery of public safety services.
âOften called the âheroes behind the headsets,â KSP telecommunicators provide a lifeline to both citizens in need and troopers in the field,â said Gov. Beshear. âThey serve as an unseen, but vital link in keeping law enforcement officers and Kentuckians safe at all times, day or night.â

During a ceremony at the state Capitol, with his family in attendance, Justice and Public Safety Cabinet Secretary Mary C. Noble swore in Commissioner Burnett, who had been holding the position in an interim capacity.
