The Bridgeton Post Office was damaged early Thursday evening when a woman accidentally took her foot off the brake of a Jeep Grand Cherokee and struck the building, taking out a wall.
Postmaster Mary Whaley said she was alone in the post office, near closing time, when “I heard a big crash and kind of felt the building shudder a little.” She added that large semis traveling down 17 can also cause the building to shake a bit and her first thought was that there had been an accident on the road.
Instead, she found the silver Cherokee at one end of the building with the decorative part of a wall laying on it. The driver was not hurt.
