According to the current Greenfield Charter, if you want to run for an at-large seat on the City Council, or run for mayor, you collect only 100 valid signatures and you are on the ballot.
If you want to run to serve as a city councilor from your precinct, you need only 50 valid signatures to get on the ballot.
But if you are a voter who thinks the City Council or the School Committee has made an unwise decision that could have negative consequences for the city, you will have to gather 1,272 valid signatures to get a referendum question on the ballot.
