Published December 18, 2020 6:47pm Former Bayan Muna representative and activist Teddy Casiño called out former Senator Antonio Trillanes IV for allegedly red-tagging family members of drug war victims who filed a communication with the International Criminal Court (ICC). It was the mothers and family members of the EJK victims of Duterte s drug war who filed with the ICC through the National Union of Peoples Lawyers (NUPL). Pls. don t red tag them, Casiño told Trillanes on Twitter on Thursday. But Trillanes said he did not mention that the kin of the extrajudicial killings were part of the communist movement.

Senate Resolution No. 599, filed by Senator Risa N. Hontiveros-Baraquel, mandates appropriate committees in the upper chamber to investigate the vigilante killings “with the end view of attaining justice for the slain victims.”
Several senators are pushing for a Senate probe into the alleged spate of extrajudicial killings (EJKs) in the country, following the deaths of a medical professional and her husband in Central Visayas.
Mary Rose Sancelan, a doctor by profession, and her husband Edwin were shot dead in Brgy. Poblacion in Guihulngan City in Negros Oriental on Dec. 15. Before she was killed, Ms. Sancelan served as the head of the government’s anti-coronavirus task force in the city.

Published December 18, 2020 10:40am Several senators believe the Senate should step in and investigate the recent killings in the Philippines this year as two resolutions were filed seeking such action. Senate Resolution No. 599 seeks to launch a probe on the disturbing trend of unlawful killings perpetrated by unidentified gunmen against activists, doctors, lawyers, and journalists all over the country. Their increasing brazenness and daring show how the law enforcement authorities have lost control of the country s peace and order, read the resolution filed by Senators Risa Hontiveros, Ralph Recto, Franklin Drilon, Francis Pangilinan, Nancy Binay, Leila De Lima, and Richard Gordon.
