A bipartisan group of DuPage County Board members has unveiled a redistricting plan over the objections of a few Democrats who sought another version of an electoral map despite a looming deadline.

Updated 4/13/2021 6:39 PM After gaining support at the committee level, a downsized body camera and Taser proposal was thwarted Tuesday when the full DuPage County Board instead authorized the sheriff s original request for a $2.5 million program over the next five years. The board s unanimous approval of the contract with Axon Enterprise Inc. brings the county closer to complying with the state s new criminal justice reform legislation, which requires the sheriff s office to outfit officers with body cameras by Jan. 1.   Included in the purchase, funded through reserves, are implementation, storage and acquisition of 180 cameras, 72 corresponding Tasers, Signal Sidearm equipment that activates the cameras if a deputy s gun is unholstered, and virtual reality training.

DuPage County courtrooms updated with COVID-19 safety measures as in-person trials resume

WHEATON, Ill. (WLS) In-person jury trials resume on March 1 at the DuPage County courthouse, and the pandemic has prompted multi-million dollar changes to the keep everyone safe, according to the circuit s chief judge and county officials. Our number one concern in the 18th Judicial Circuit, in this courthouse, is the safety of everyone - our litigants, our jurors, our general public who wants to come in and watch the trial, said Chief Judge Kenneth Popejoy of the 18th Judicial Circuit Court. The DuPage County Board allocated $13 million of CARES Act federal funding to update the Henry J. Hyde Judicial Facility in Wheaton during the last four months, according to county board members.
