The Acharaugo Foundation recently organised the first edition of a special festival of carols and nine lessons in Nkpologwu, a community under Aguata Local Government Area of Anambra State, which turned to a rallying point for the people of the kingdom, Mary Ovie reports Although the year has been ravaged by COVID-19 pandemic, the Christmas season evokes excitement whether for children or adults. Often characterised by abundance of food, snacks, drinks and, of course, gifts the Yuletide is indeed a season to make merry and also a time of sharing. It is also a time to reunite and rally round the community. Giving wings to this, the Acharaugo Foundation recently organised the first edition of a special festival of carols and nine lessons.

Barge Operators Hold AGM, Chart Way Forward

Mary Ovie To round off the year, the Barge Operation Association Of Nigeria, recently held their Annual General Meeting (AGM) in Lagos where challenges faced were tackled while they charted a way forward for the coming year. At the AGM, the President, Edema Kelikume, commenced sitting with commendation for the agencies and regulatory bodies they work with, including the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) for the support rendered the association during the year. Lamenting the poor financial commitments, which leaves the burden of shouldering the association on the leadership, it was however resolved that members should spread the payments monthly instead of yearly.

Promoting Nigeria s Bilateral Relations Towards a Secure Gulf of Guinea

Chiemelie Ezeobi and Mary Ovie write that to promote Nigeria’s bilateral relations and in furtherance to the safety of Gulf of Guinea waters, the Nigerian Navy recently held a joint exercise with its Italian counterpart On October 2020, the Italian Ambassador to Nigeria, Stefano Pontesilli, paid a courtesy visit to the Naval Headquarters in Abuja and one of the fallouts of that meeting with the Chief of the Naval Staff (CNS), Vice Admiral Ibok-Ete Ibas, was the strengthening of ties between both countries. At that meeting, the CNS had assured that the Nigerian Navy (NN) will continue to maintain existing relationships with its partners and work on the same trajectory towards sustaining the gains recorded in securing the Gulf of Guinea (GoG), especially since there was an already existing close collaboration between the GoG regional navies towards stemming the tide of recent incidences of insecurity in the region.
