Gov. Charlie Baker, R-Swampscott, and Sen. Joan Lovely and Rep. Paul Tucker, both Democrats from Salem, were among a select number of people who dedicated the new plaque.
Cadet Nurses Betty Beecher of Weymouth and Mary Maione of Hamilton, who served during World War II, were at the ceremony. This is an extraordinary story that brought us here today, not the larger story which is extraordinary enough which is what these women did, but how this came about, said Tucker.
