âThis is a very proud moment for the Town of Elkton,â said Alt.
At the ribbon-cutting ceremony to mark the buildingâs opening, Alt was joined by Elkton Town Commissioners, Department of Parks & Recreation Director Mary Magaw, a representative of the Maryland Department of Housing and Community Development, staff from Wickersham Construction and Engineering who helped construct the building, and Cecil County Executive Danielle Hornberger.
The 18,500 square foot building was initially completed in October 2020, and received a âsoft-launchâ of limited activities organized by Magawâs Parks & Recreation department. The Center features a full-size gymnasium named after Town Commissioners Earl Piner and Charles Givens, four multi-purpose activity rooms, a fully-equipped kitchen, and offices.
ELKTON A bright and sunny Saturday saw over a hundred surrounding Howards Pond on East Main Street to participate in Team Elkton s Inaugural Fishing Rodeo. Event registration was open to kids 15 and under, but whole families made their way down to the Pond to take part in the Rodeo s activities.
All around the pond, members of the community set up their chairs and cast their lines. Father-son pairings sat next to whole families as everyone came together to spend a morning enjoying the calm fishing.
The event was originally capped at 100 preregistrations, which Massimiano did not expect to reach. However, the cap of 100 was surpassed several days before the Rodeo. Not, according to Massimiano, that the cap would prevent anyone from participating.
