As part of this year’s National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) May Day Migrant Workers Celebration, a fully-virtual show livestreamed for close to 50,000 migrant workers in Singapore to tune in and join in the celebrations.
Organised by the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) and the Migrant Workers’ Centre (MWC), the virtual event held on 23 May 2021, was filled with live and pre-recorded performances at the MWC Facebook page. Present at the event was NTUC President Mary Liew, NTUC Secretary-General Ng Chee Meng, and Singapore’s Minister of Manpower Dr Tan See Leng.
SINGAPORE - Senior Minister of State for Transport and Foreign Affairs Chee Hong Tat will join the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) on May 15 and become its deputy secretary-general, replacing Dr Koh Poh Koon, who is Senior Minister of State for Health.
In a statement on Thursday (May 6), NTUC said Mr Chee - who is relinquishing his appointment in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs as part of the Cabinet changes announced last month - will be co-opted into its central committee.
The 47-year-old will also take on the role of group director of NTUC s training and transformation group. In addition, he has been appointed as a cadre member of the Union of Power and Gas Employees (Upage) and an executive secretary in the United Workers of Electronics and Electrical Industries (UWEEI).

SINGAPORE: Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat was on Wednesday (Apr 28) conferred the Medal of Honour during the National Trades Union Congress (NTUC) May Day Awards held at Downtown East.
The top May Day Award is given to “special individuals who have rendered distinguished services to the labour movement”, NTUC said in a news release.

Mr Heng was also the guest-of-honour at the awards ceremony, which was held with more than 200 attendees comprising union leaders and tripartite partners over two sessions on the same day. The ceremony was streamed online via Zoom for awardees’ guests.
