Another challenge . The only water source is a half mile away from the top of the landfill. Fire trucks have to fill up water at the hydrant, and then race back to the top of the hill. The wind has also accelerated the fire, as well as spread hot ash and embers through the surrounding field. We have had embers that have come from this far and set several smaller companies. We had a company that was in route that had to pull off to put out a smaller fire. Thats important for us. If we can get a fire when its small, it wont become such a large fire. Its been a long day for the san jose fire department. This is at least the tenth fire they have responded to today.
