Athol: Downtown group addresses drop in parking meter revenues Published: 12/14/2020 5:22:40 PM Modified: 12/14/2020 5:54:40 PM ATHOL Mary Holfort and Athol Planning and Development Director Eric Smith recently updated members of the Downtown Vitality Committee on initial steps being taken to establish a Parking Benefits District (PBD) in downtown Athol. Holfort, Chair of the DVC, told the committee that a newly formed Parking Benefits District Task Force had recently held its first meeting. “It seemed to go pretty well,” she said. “Everybody seemed in agreement that (a PBD) is probably something to pursue.” At each of the most recent town meetings held in Athol, an article calling on voters to adopt the state law which allows for the establishment of a Parking Benefits District was passed over due to the number of questions that needed to be answered before residents could be asked to OK such a measure.
