GoFundMe campaign a savior for small Athens church crippled by COVID-19
While the Rev. Jeffery Marion and his small congregation worshipped on Sunday mornings in Athens, little did they realize that outside the concrete-block walls of the small church their gospel music was reaching the ears of the community.
“It’s the sound of my neighborhood because of their singing and the music,” Dubose Avenue resident Mary Hallam Pearse said.
“Actually, people will walk by the church, hear the singing and will sit outside and listen. It’s a familiar sound for me that I’ve missed,” said Pearse, who has lived near the church for 11 years.
