Canton couple indicted by grand jury

Mary Guarendi is being held on a $2 million bond, accused of killing her 18-month-old son.
CANTON – A Stark County grand jury has indicted a Canton couple over the death of their 18-month-old son.
According to the Stark County Prosecutor’s Office, Kevin L. Walker, 29, and Mary Guarendi, 24, face one count each of murder and endangering children.
They are accused of fatally beating the child with “household furniture,” court records show.

Canton police responded to a call on May 17 around 5 p.m. regarding a naked woman walking in the 1900 block of Maple Avenue NE.

Authorities: Ohio woman fatally beat toddler son with furniture
The baby’s father, Kevin Walker, 29, who also lives in the home, was charged with obstruction of justice.

A woman who used several pieces of furniture to fatally beat her toddler son in their home has been charged with murder, authorities said.
Police responding to reports of a nude woman walking in a Canton neighborhood found Mary Guarendi, 26, around 5 p.m. Monday. She told the officers her 17-month old son was dead in her nearby home, authorities said.
Officers entered the residence through an unlocked window and soon found the unconscious child, whose battered body was underneath several pieces of large furniture. He was taken to a hospital but was pronounced dead there a short time later.
