Candy Thomas was having trouble signing up for U.S. Department of Agriculture s Farmers to Families Food Box Program.
In the summer she was able to access the program, she and her husband received a fresh box of food that lasted them two months.
This Thursday, though, the online registration portal wasn t accepting her information and denying her access. Concerned they wouldn t be able to access it this time around, she scanned the webpage for more details. It said if you have trouble to call 2-1-1, so that s what I did, Thomas, 62, of Swanton, said.
Thomas is part of a surge seen this past year in Vermonters seeking help from Vermont 211, a free information and resource helpline run by United Way of Vermont.
