Even growing up just seven blocks from Pensacola High School, David Williams never thought he d one day be the principal.
Instead, like most kids who loved sports, Williams thought he would play forever and even make it in the NBA. That was a dream that was almost realized when he was drafted by the Phoenix Suns organization in 1981.
But a knee injury put a stop to his athletic career that preseason and sent him down a path that would eventually lead to a 35-year career at his alma mater Pensacola High School, which included roles in teaching, coaching and administration. Williams plans to retire as principal at the end of this school year.
