Former SOU President Mary Cullinan dies - KOBI-TV NBC5 / KOTI-TV NBC2

CHENEY, Wash. – A former Southern Oregon University president passed away. Dr. Mary Cullinan took the helm at SOU in 2006 and stepped down in 2014, moving on to serve as Eastern Washington University’s first female president. She resigned from that position last year. According to KHQ, Cullinan was on a sabbatical and planned to start teaching EWU students this fall. Eastern Washington University didn’t release many details about Cullinan’s death but the school did say her family wishes for privacy at this time. I don’t have any details to share, but it is a shock.  It is the wishes of her family that no one reach out to them at this time, and the university will be respecting these wishes for privacy. Cullinan was the university s 26th president and the first woman to fill that role.  She was appointed in 2014 and was previously the president of Southern Oregon University. During her time as president, the university expanded its footprint in Spokane, with the energy neutral Catalyst Building and the EWU Spokane Campus.

KXLY May 3, 2021 12:41 PM Erin Robinson Interim President David May informed the campus of her sudden passing Monday. “I don’t have any details to share, but it is a shock,” May said. Cullinan, who was the university’s first female president, stepped down from the role in August 2020 following a vote of no confidence by the faculty senate. She retained a position in the English department, but in October announced she would take a nine-month sabbatical. CWU Names Iowa Educator As New President

Credit Courtesy of Central Washington University Central Washington University has become the latest of the state’s regional universities to announce a leadership change. Thursday the Ellensburg university introduced Dr. James Wohlpart as its new president. Wohlpart comes from the University of Northern Iowa, where he is the provost. He says he will have two major priorities in his new job. One is to continue the work Central has done to diversify its student body and faculty. Central reports that 40% of its students come from traditionally underserved groups. That’s up from 31% four years ago. “Central Washington is ahead of the game in terms of the diversity of their student body, Wohlpart said. And the second is the budget. We absolutely must make sure that we are diversifying our resource base. We know that state budgets come and go. They go up and down. We have to develop some kind of resilience in our budget and find ways to create funding from other mechanisms, inc
