IARN Farmers for Free Trade on Tuesday hosted an AgTalks press conference, which discussed the challenges and solutions facing American agriculture on trade, supply chains, and global competitiveness.
Two agricultural standouts from Iowa participated in the AgTalks virtual meeting. Mary Andringa, chair of the board of Vermeer Corporation, and Kevin Ross, chairman of the National Corn Growers Association, both expressed their hopes for American agriculture in the new year, under a new Administration.

The Iowa Business Council elected leaders from Pella Corp. and Collins Aerospace to chair and vice chair positions.
Tim Yaggi, the president and chief executive officer of Pella Corp., is the new chairman. Phil Jasper, Collins Aerospace’s president of mission systems, replaces Yaggi as the vice chairman.
“As Iowans collectively rebuild from the impacts of the pandemic, the IBC is well-positioned to drive proactive discussions between policymakers and stakeholders in the business community to ensure Iowa bounces back stronger than ever,” Yaggi said in a news release.
Yaggi takes over for Mary Andringa, board chairwoman for Pella-based Vermeer, who is retiring from the business council. Jason Andringa, Vermeer’s president and chief executive officer, is joining the board.

Farmers for Free Trade held a virtual press conference Tuesday to release a new report on the challenges and solutions for American agriculture on trade, supply chains and global competitiveness. The report is the culmination of a series of discussions across rural America with farmers, ag leaders and related industries including manufacturing and food producers and distributors.
The report, organized by Farmers for Free Trade and its membership, is being released to the incoming Biden administration, Congressional offices and the general public at a time when the ag community is facing enormous challenges, including the potential loss of a trade surplus it has enjoyed for decades.
