On the New York City ballot are 25 judgeships for state Supreme Court and 21 openings for Civil Court. With the exception of the lone Civil Court contest on Staten Island with a Democrat and Republican competing, in all 45 other judicial “elections,” the Democratic candidate is guaranteed victory, almost always running unopposed.
