New COVID-19 cases continued to break records locally and across the state last week with Pitt County Schools seeing its highest number of school-affected cases yet and the county recording its 59th death on Friday.
The state court system also will halt all non-essential in-person proceedings for 30 days starting Monday, Chief Justice Cheri Beasley announced as 7,540 new COVID-19 cases were reported across the state.
Fridayâs total surpassed the previous one-day high of 6,495 cases recorded just two days earlier on Wednesday, a development state Department of Health and Human Services Secretary Mandy Cohen called âstaggering and alarming.â
