WE have truly lost a queen – in body, but not in spirit. The death of Sandra Des Vignes-Millington, Singing Sandra, last Thursday evoked an immeasurable amount of sadness over the passing of a strong woman and dedicated calypsonian.
In her life, Singing Sandra provided us with a musical mirror that reflected the humour and pain that defines Trinidad and Tobago. She never lost her roots; she never lost her humility.
Sandra served as a mother and role model in her community and on the calypso stage, where she demonstrated strength and success. Through her dedication to the Morvant community where she lived, Sandra showed us that everywhere in Trinidad deserves love and respect.

There was crying all across TT, the region and parts of the world as the news of Sandra “Singing Sandra” Des Vignes Millington’s death spread.
The calypso icon died on Wednesday night.
A post on her official Facebook page said on January 28, “Dear loyal fans and supporters worldwide, it is with deep regret that you be informed of the passing of national icon Sandra Des Vignes, The Singing Sandra, who passed away last night. More information will be sent when made available.”

The calypso fraternity was plunged into mourning today with news of the passing of Sandra Des Vignes-Millington, known and loved for her hard-hitting social commentaries and being two-time Calypso Monarch, Singing Sandra.
The announcement concerning the 64-year-old artiste’s passing was made on her official Facebook page at about 7 am.
“This is not a hoax. More information will be disseminated in due course. Condolences to the love ones of Queen Singing Sandra. ‘Dear loyal fans and supporters worldwide. It is with deep rregret that you be informed of the passing of National Icon San Des Vignes, The Singing Sandra, who passed away last night. More information will be sent when made available’,” the statement read.
