Wavell Wayne Hinds of West Indian cricket fame and revered for his admirable exploits at the crease, is now a Paralympic Ambassador with his recent appointment as Chef de Mission for the 2024 Paris Paralympic Games. In taking the top job, Hinds best a list of experienced candidates after a gruelling interviewing process which saw noted sport personalities being selected to assume duties at Paralympic international games.
An exemplary sport administrator whose listed credentials include the presidencies of the West Indies Players Association and Kensington Cricket Club, Hinds will now be responsible for marshalling Jamaica’s team of athletes and officials at the multi-disciplinary pinnacle of para sports. The Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA) revealed Hinds was among the candidates for the positions of
Chef de Mission and manager for major events over the next four years.
The JPA is set to announce the management teams for the 2021 Bogota Para Pan Youth Games in Colombia, the Birmingham 2022 Commonwealth Games in England, the 2022 Kobe World Para Athletics Championships in Japan, the 2023 Santiago Para Pan Games in Chile and the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games in France.
Hinds played 45 Test matches for the West Indies between 2000 and 2005 as well as 119 one-day internationals from 1999 and 2010.

The list of prospective candidates for the offices of Chef de Mission and Manager of Paralympic teams to regional and international games has some noted sport administrators and personalities who have signalled their intention to become Paralympic ambassadors.
The Jamaica Paralympic Association (JPA), under an initiative dubbed A Call to Duty , made a call for Chefs de Mission and Managers for its teams to regional and international games for the quadrennial period 2021 to 2024. As a result, the likes of Wavell Hinds of cricket fame, Robert Darby, of the horse racing industry, Leonie Finn, known for her admirable Netball achievements, Wayne Thompson, President par excellence of the St Thomas Football Association, Kaydean Webley, Digicels’ Corporate Marketing Executive guru and Marvalyn Campbell, noted Educator and softball s empress among others have placed their credentials on the table.
