Heat, heavy rain plagues some grain fields

Hot and humid conditions plus a threat of more showers and thunderstorms will continue to plague the Monroe County region leading up to the Fourth of July weekend, forecasters said. The cloudbursts and storms that drenched other areas of the state missed the county and went north, reports showed. The Dundee Wastewater Treatment Plant, the county’s only official recording station for the National Weather Service, measured only three-quarters of an inch of moisture from June 21 through Sunday. The only significant rainfall measured was .74 of an inch on Friday, according to a stat sheet provided by David Rigel, plant superintendent.
