Mario Boone: Waste management workers find man shot to death in secluded wooded area off Fayetteville roadway

FAYETTEVILLE, N.C. (WTVD) A homicide investigation is underway in Fayetteville after waste management workers found a 40-year-old man dead in a wooded area off a roadway Friday morning. Around 7:40 a.m., officers with the Fayetteville Police Department responded to the report of a person found in the area of Vogel Drive and Milan Road. Waste management workers in the area told investigators that the man was found lying in a secluded wooded area off the roadway with gunshot wounds. Officials identified the man as Mario Boone, 40, of Martindale Drive in Fayetteville. The search is now on for the killer in Boone s death.

The body of a man, dead from apparent gunshot wounds, was found by city workers in the woods not far from a Fayetteville elementary school Friday morning. A Waste Management worker discovered the body of Mario Boone, 40, of Martindale Drive in Fayetteville, in the wood line just off Vogel Street near Milan Road about 7:40 a.m., according to a news release from the Fayetteville Police Department. The area is not far from the the CSX Transportation corporate office and TC Berrien Elementary School. Fayetteville Police Sgt. Jeremy Glass said the location, a thicket of woods between Ramsey Street and the railroad tracks, is notorious for illegal dumping. On Friday afternoon, a discarded mattress, bagged household trash, and several bibles were among the items that littered the wood line and orange police evidence marker stickers still marked the road.

Crash at Raeford Road and Ireland Drive in Fayetteville kills man

A 31-year-old man was killed Friday when his car hit a utility pole after it collided with a sport utility vehicle, officials said. Mario O. Baldwin of the 500 block of Prestige Boulevard was killed in the crash, according to a statement released by the Fayetteville Police Department. He was driving a 2012 Mercedes C300 at the time of the crash, it said. Police officers were called to the intersection of Raeford Road and Ireland Drive just after 8:50 p.m. because of a reported traffic collision, the statement said. Baldwin’s car collided with a 2013 Ford Explorer, which was driven by Roy L. Perry, 60, of the 1700 block of Martindale Drive, according to the statement.
