Viewpoint isn t interested in imitating Jed Mercurio s smash hit. It is a different beast entirely. ITV
The contrast is predominantly evident in its pacing. A significant portion of the chatter surrounding the series argues that it s moving far too slowly. Some have even proceeded a step further, labelling it boring , which could well be a symptom of having watched
Line of Duty the previous evening.
Despite being a relatively tame episode by its own standards – it included an almost 30-minute interrogation scene – it still squeezed in a dramatic car chase, a police standoff and a raid carried out by the Guardia Civil.

The debt that
Viewpoint (ITV) owes to Rear Window is obvious, and it’s a good advert for curtain companies. The voyeur in this case has a legitimate reason for spying on the people across the street: he is DC Martin Young (Noel Clarke), a police surveillance officer keeping watch on the partner of a missing primary schoolteacher.
3.0 out of 5 star rating
Viewpoint, starring Noel Clarke, isn’t exactly what you’d call a “thriller”. The show’s action is catalysed by a female teacher’s disappearance, yet somehow the gravity of that scenario doesn’t come across on-screen (or at least not during the first two episodes).

The drama initially feels low-stakes, and that’s in part due to the central focus on a police surveillance team. Their role is to spy on potential suspects and report back to the higher-ups. It’s not their place to question why they’re watching someone, or even ask what crime the suspect might have committed. Their opinion (or rather, ‘viewpoint’) doesn’t matter.
