As if Karachiâs residents were not already perturbed by the sporadic outages and low pressure of gas, the Sui Southern Gas Company (SSGC) on Tuesday announced reduced supply of the commodity from its Naimat basal field.
A statement issued by the gas company said supply in their system has observed a reduction. âThere is a technical fault at the Naimat Basal Gas Field.â
The SSGC said that due to the technical fault, thereâs a shortage of 100 million cubic feet per day (mmcfd). Low pressure has made it immensely difficult to meet the high demand of the industrial and domestic sectors, it added.

Karachi’s residents are facing sporadic gas outages and low gas pressure, making their lives miserable during this year’s cold spell, as is evident by the rise in the demand for electric geysers by a whopping 30 per cent and for electric hotplates by 15 per cent in comparison to last winter.
Citing these figures, Karachi Electronics Dealers Association President Muhammad Rizwan Irfan told The News that mostly families have been make their way to markets in search of electric geysers and hotplates.
“If people don’t have gas at home, how are they supposed to cook?” he said, adding that during winter one needs hot water, and most of the people in Karachi use gas geysers for that.
