For the first time since March 2020, the number of deaths from COVID-19 in Acadiana did not increase this week as the virus’ spread continues to slow in the region.
As of Friday, Acadiana’s COVID-19 death toll remains the same as it was a week ago. One COVID-19 death was reported in St. Landry Parish Wednesday and one was removed from St. Martin Parish Thursday, leaving the region’s lives lost to COVID-19 at 1,213.
This week marks the first week that Acadiana has not seen a net increase in the number of lives lost to COVID-19 since the region’s first pandemic deaths were reported in March 2020.

Weather leaves damage near Parks, Breaux Bridge

ST. MARTIN PARISH â Strong storms blew through Acadiana on Wednesday night, bringing with them damage for parts of St. Martin Parish.
The KATC weather teams say that reports of damage from last night s storm spread from Parks to Breaux Bridge. Chief Meteorologist Rob Perillo says the National Weather Service has surveyed the damage in St. Martin Parish and confirmed a tornado touched down between Parks and Breaux Bridge on Grand Bois Road. The tornado was either a high end EF1 or low end EF2, with roughly 110 mph winds or higher, depending on the final evaluation. Damage followed pea-size hail.
