After battering its way through the caribbean, Hurricane Irma currently a category four storm has slammed into the lower florida keys, lashing the island chain with winds up to 130 mph. The hurricane made landfall in cuba late on friday. It engulfed villages, causing widespread damage and leaving whole communities homeless. The eye of the storm has now reached the florida keys, bringing extreme winds that are expected to last for the next few hours. All residents had been ordered to leave amid fears that a storm surge reaching 15 feet could hit the islands, most of which are only a few feet above sea level.
