Concern over strain on services as north-east fire and rescue divisions to undergo merger

Sign Up Concerns have been raised over a “strain” on fire and rescue services after it was revealed north-east divisions will merge in an attempt to provide an improved service. Bosses of Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) confirmed the merger of it north-east fire and rescue services – but said it will “not result” in the closure local stations. In a letter, seen by the Press and Journal, the newly announced consolidation of the service across Aberdeen City, Aberdeenshire and Moray is planned for June.

Sign Up New survey results show that free school meal applications in Aberdeen secondary schools are nearly 20% lower than the rest of Scotland. The assessment, carried out by Aberdeen City Council’s education committee, found that the uptake for the service sits at 52% in the Granite City – significantly lower than the national average of 70%.

The projection also states that less than half of the new cases can be linked to a known event or outbreak suggesting that community spread accounts for the majority.
