An Illinois man was taken into custody after he tried evading LaPorte County Sheriffâs Department officers on a chase through several fields and into LaPorte on Friday.
Martin Devalois, 37, of Braidwood, Illinois is charged with felony counts of resisting law enforcement and serious violent felon in possession of a firearm, police said.
On Friday at 9:58 a.m. LaPorte County Deputy Jon Samuelson was traveling westbound on U.S. 20 near Fail Road when he noticed a westbound passenger vehicle tailgating another vehicle. A traffic stop was initiated and the tailgating vehicle stopped on Range Road north of U.S. 20.
Samuelson made contact with the female driver and a male passenger, identified later as Devalois. The woman voluntarily exited the vehicle, police said. Deputy Corey Chavez arrived shortly after to assist.
