New fungicide could lead to drastic change in management

Tom J. Bechman PROTECTED FROM DAY ONE: The industry standard, until now, is applying fungicide on corn at the reproductive stage, if needed. A new product, Xyway, could bring about a paradigm shift. FMC’s Xyway fungicide, which is applied at planting, launched this year. Suggested Event Jun 15, 2021 to Jun 17, 2021 A new product launched commercially in 2021 to control fungal diseases in corn could cause growers to rethink disease control strategies. It isn’t often that a new product comes along that could cause a paradigm shift in management practices. The product is Xyway from FMC. Drake Copeland, FMC technical services manager, says what’s different is that this fungicide is applied at planting. Yet it still has activity against diseases that often appear closer to tasseling and silking in corn.

While scouting your wheat fields this season, you might be under the impression that your wheat is growing faster than last year. Guess what? You are correct. According to the latest wheat watchers report from April 26, 2021, many watchers have reported wheat at or above the Feekes 6 growth stage (jointing). To give you some perspective, in Lenawee and Monroe counties in southeast Michigan, we found wheat at the jointing stage back on April 16.

Speed indicator cameras are set to be installed in Otterburn

They have received £3,334 from Northumbrian Water and £1,598 from the Ray Wind Fund. At a parish council meeting on Tuesday (April 6), members agreed to place the order for the cameras. They will have a data capture feature. The clerk of the council, Martin Chilvers, said he has been promised that the Police are considering what actions can be taken to assist in reducing the speed of vehicles exceeding the limit through Otterburn. He added Northumberland County Council are also in the process of considering action that can be taken to help reduce the speed of some vehicles passing through the village.
