the similar lust bill didn t create all the jobs that were promised. martha: it also brings to mind steve the controversy we talked about a couple of weeks ago where there was a month. underfoot afoot i should say to look into packs and whether or not contractors were getting money and what political affiliations they had with different political action committees in terms of whether or not they would get the government contracts. it makes you scratch your head and say, well if you re going to the lengths to do that won t you first look at some of these companies that you re giving stimulus money to and check out what their relationship was with the irs, for example? martha that is an excellent point, i never thought of that angle. you re exactly right. just two or three weeks ago the white house i think they backed off on this a little bit, they said they wanted to investigate all the political contributions of major contractors that were getting funds through programs like the
the obamas like them clearly, and they like each other. it s going very well. martha: there was a lot of press when president obama first came into office that the bust of winston churchill was removed from the oval office. the gift that were exchanged weren t appropriate with gordon brown. is there any indication, what are you feeling in britain right now about how they are all being received? i think is is an important state visit for britain and america. we are close allies. we are friends, we have been for many, many years. this state visit to serve to cement our relationship even further. and the people love it. the people like obama. there is a huge crowd outside of buckingham palace waiting to see him and mrs. obama. everywhere they go there are people waiting to see them. there are very popular here. i think this state visit is an important gesture. martha: there was a time in your life when you would have been
oversight committee, because nobody messes with joe. [applause] martha: that was a stand up and clap moment there. that was president obama back in 2009 promising an unprecedented oversight of the stimulus package. a new report is indicating there were stunning cracks in that system. a senate hearing is set to get underway on capitol hill and lawmakers are demanding to know why so-called tax deadbeats, companies and none profits who had not made taxes were turned around and given lucrative stimulus contracts worth billions of dollars. 3700 contractors were given stimulus money even though they owed collectively $750 million in back taxes. that seems odd, right? one company got more than $1 million in stimulus money even though it owed twice that in back taxes. do you think you and i would be treated this way? it seems unbelievable, doesn t it? let s bring in steve moore,
these companies were getting don t you think it might have made sense to also look at whether they are paying their taxes, you know, whether they are under any kind of criminal indictment or anything like that? it appears that that was never investigated, and that s why these tense of millions of dollars went to firms that never should have got even the money in the first place, and it also fears one last thing that a lot of the money that those companies got was not spent on the purposes that the money was supposed to be spent for. martha: when the left hand doesn t know what the right hand is doing and how many times that happens probably up there. martha it s so infuriating. remember when this whole project was announced by the president they promised 3 million jobs. we didn t get 3 million jobs we lost 2 million. i think because the lack of oversight that we were supposed to be protected against. martha: thank you, steve. the administration has hired someone whose only job is to
reason for a fight. the reality is there is no peace process right now. there is no prospects of a peace process. the two of them have to figure out how to deal with events in september. that s going to be enough of a challenge. there is a lot of mistrust. until they find a common enterprise, that would inspire them to trust one. >another. it will be rocky. but the prime minister dominated politics. martha: somewhat say the actions the last few days could tail yeah natcould alienate the prest with crew i shall voters in the united states. do you think so? i think there are probably a significant number of american jews where criticism of israel
