and donald trump backed 27 candidates, 23 won, and one is still in the ether, and we will find out if oz or mccormick will prevail, as i said, 23 of the 27, some ran unopposed, some were in safe republican districts. two big losses that stand out for him, madison cawthorn in north carolina and janice mcgeachin. cawthorn lost by a small amount, the other thunked by a governor there, and she tried to usurp the governor on a couple of times. martha: former president trump had a choice, he could have said i will stay out of the primary, and make my feelings known. he s a bold politician, always has been, he has some grievances over the people who do not
to good use defending period in the donbas as well. gillian: listening to jake sullivan brief the press in the briefing ram there. he s previewing the upcoming trip to asia, and talked about the war in ukraine. he also addressed nato expansion with finland and sweden set to join the alliance, he believes that is going to go through, and that nato will be on board with the decisions. john: bring in martha maccallum, author of the story, and other things. talk about foreign policy there, and the president tomorrow will go to asia to visit south korea and japan. a meeting with the quad countries as well. your thoughts about everything that you heard there from sullivan? martha: it s so interesting. when you are elected president, you sort of run on a platform, a number of ideas and approach. we heard very little about foreign policy throughout the course of the 2020 presidential election and now with the
nation moment which we clearly have not seen. but i think it says the reality of the difficulty of the coming midterm election for his party is quite clear. so now the only way to go, that s on defense. and they are going on defense, primarily, with this ultra maga label. they are going to say you know, republicans have become so radical that president biden does not recognize them from his old friends in the senate days, and a new breed that is radical, so that s clearly where they are headed in terms of approach to the midterms because it s a good it s good head fake in a way from inflation and crime and the things we know from the polling are really foremost on people s minds. john: i m with you, martha. announcement only codifies a policy since 2021.
