By Matabeleland North Correspondent HWANGE: Victoria Falls Town Clerk Ronnie Dube who is facing charges of criminal abuse of office will spend the weekend in remand prison after Hwange magistrate Gladmore Mushove postponed bail ruling to Monday. Dube (54) was arrested by officers from the joint police Anti-Corruption Unit and Special Anti-Corruption Unit in the President’s Office Wednesday in Victoria Falls before being taken to court in Hwange. He applied for bail through his lawyer Matshobana Ncube assisted by Nomusa Khumalo challenging unlawful arrest and detention Thursday before the magistrate ruled that he had a case to answer. Ncube said his client was a good candidate for bail and accused the state of failing to give concrete reasons on why Dube should not be granted bail.

By Matabeleland North Correspondent HWANGE: The tag-of-war between Victoria Falls Mayor Councillor Somvelo Dlamini and Town Clerk Ronnie Dube has escalated with the latter being arrested for alleged abuse of office. Dlamini suspended Dube without pay and benefits last week Wednesday accusing him of “corruption, gross incompetence, abuse of office and causing the local authority to lose revenue” before councillors convened a special meeting on Monday and reversed the suspension. However, councilors resolved to revoke the suspension saying it was null-and-void after the mayor who they accused of making solo decisions, had failed to give them concrete reasons for suspending the town clerk.

Released From Prison For Killing Brother, Man Axes His Two Nephews To Death In Zimbabwe

A Binga man who was released from prison on Presidential amnesty fatally axed his two nephews both aged 5-years-old with an axe and they died on the spot last year. Themba Muleya, 39, of Sikhalala village under Chief Dobola in Binga had been jailed in 2010  after he was convicted for killing his brother and he was released from prison on Presidential amnesty in 2018. However, the High Court has retained a special verdict and sent Muleya to Mlondolozi Mental Institution, after establishing that he was suffering from a mental illness when he committed the crime. It was established that the accused person has a history of mental illness that dates back to childhood when he started abusing alcohol and drugs, according to a report from psychiatrists.
