The two-storey pub was nicknamed The Threepenny Bit owing to its octagonal shape and was named after General Marshall Wade.
He set-up a camp for his troops on Woodhouse Moor and led forces north to protect the country from possible invasion following Bonnie Prince Charlie s landing in Scotland in July 1745.
The pub was on Wade Lane, named after city benefactor Thomas Wade (1530) who left money to be spent for the benefit of Leeds residents.
