But some are colder than others and more dangerous than others. A coating to two inches of snow sticking on untreated surfaces. Then the subzero wind chills that are coming in. Just to give you an idea, its 12 right now. By new years morning it feels like five below. Thats a 17 degree difference. 17 degrees colder than it is right now. Imagine that. Theres the snow on the radar. Its obviously moving in. It will not be with us this evening, it will be with us tomorrow morning. And its a fairly large area, but its not all that heavy. Its not going to last all day. Were talking, again, about a coating to two inches of snow. The snow part starts Early Saturday Morning and the worst of the bitter cold ends about 8 00 a. M. On tuesday. Subzero wind chills through much of the area with this cold air mass. The amount of snow, not as big a deal as the slipperiness. Its moving fairly quickly, its a sure bet its coming in. Weve issued a first alert so that youre prepared for the changes to our weather. Meteorologist steve sosna is keeping an eye on the timing of the snow. Steve. Thats right, rosemary. Snow beginning in our western suburbs already in Chester County, its snowing up in the poconos, were seeing the light snow. And, look, visibility has come down. I showed this to you a half hour ago. You can see a little further. The curtain of snow is lowering across the area. Thats camelback. Lets look at other spots in our area right now. This is a live look from the loews hotel. Ettable snow, a coating to but the problem with this one is weve had such cold ground temperatures. So anything that falls will immediately stick if not treated. And even the treated surfaces when you get below 20 degrees, the chemicals dont work as effectively. So really your tires need some kind of traction especially when the snow compacts and turns into ice.
