Simpson College Working For Personal Connections with Prospective Students

The new leadership at Simpson College over the past year, including new president Marsha Kelliher, Vice President for Marketing and Strategic Communications Cathy Cole, and Athletic Director Marty Bell, is working to hone their message to prospective students and adding a personal touch to recruiting. Cole tells KNIA News the project is multi-layered and includes working with alumni and faculty describing the experience at Simpson College, as well as creating a connection. “Our strength here at Simpson is Coach Jeter knows your name, President Kelliher knows your name when you are walking by, and people stop and greet you by name. It happens all day everyday here. So you really are a name and not a number, and this is our way of demonstrating it. I think it really does matter.”

Simpson College Names New Athletic Director

Simpson College President Marsha Kelliher has named Marty Bell as the next Athletic Director, after a two-month long national search. Bell was previously at Quincy University in Quincy, Illinois, serving as the Vice President for Intercollegiate Athletics, spending 13 years at the Division-II school overseeing facility upgrades, an increase of student-athletes by more than 50%, and added multiple programs to the athletic department. Quincy finished in the top half of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Commissioner’s Cup standings in 10 out of 12 seasons and the number of academic all-conference honorees more than doubled from 2012-17 under Bell’s tenure. Bell said in a statement:

Indianola City Council Approves Support of George Washington Carver Statue

The Indianola City Council approved a resolution in support of placing a statue of George Washington Carver in the United States Capitol Statuary Hall. City Manager Ryan Waller tells KNIA News the city was approached by Simpson College President Marsha Kelliher who is on a steering commission working to get the project approved, and the city was more than happy to lend its support. “This is one that is near and dear to our community, George Washington Carver started his college career at Simpson College and lived in our community for a while. Simpson College President Kelliher asked our city council and mayor to help support this initiative and the resolution was passed unanimously. We’ve passed that on to President Kelliher so she can work with the rest of the steering committee to help bring this project to fruition.”
