Your elected officers were very busy over the past 45 days. They passed a record-breaking $25 billion budget and hundreds of bills. Here’s a recap of some of the bigger bills that passed, failed and never got off the ground in the 2022 legislative session:
HB476 would prohibit local governments from adopting or enforcing ordinances or other rules that prohibit the operation of an animal enterprise or the use of a working animal. Governments would instead only be able to enforce state and federal laws.
The Utah House rejected a school choice bill. The Hope Scholarship proposed to provide scholarships using public money for Utah students to attend private schools. Low-income families would have received preference for the vouchers.
The Hope Scholarship bill was defeated in the House on Monday, even after significant changes the bill s sponsor said rendered it so it would not harm public education financially.
