the first marriage dynasty was founded here in the ninth century. three hundred years later jayaraman the seventh rebuilt the capital on the site of his victory over there come a place drenched with the blood of his enemies and named it encore tong. today the great city of encore tong could be described as a forest of stone entangled in a forest of trees. this last city buried for many centuries is spread out through six square miles of jungle. a traveler from one thousand nine hundred one writes i have found the place where palaces once the seat of mighty kings long since forgotten. these towering slabs of rock now one with the jungle where the work of
