Making false marriage promises wrong, but consensual sex in live-in not rape: Supreme Court

Any couple who have been in a live-in relationship since long, consensual sex between them cannot be termed as rape, if the man failed to keep his promise of marriage to the woman. The Supreme Court of India on Moday said this in its observation.
Supreme Court was hearing a case related to two call centre employees who had been in a live-in relationship for five years. The man however married another woman. This led the live-in partner to slap rape charges against the man, accusing him of indulging in sexual intercourse on the false promise of marriage.
