COVINGTON, Ga. A family is still searching for answers after a Covington, Georgia native s car was found in Cartersville days after he was reported missing, as authorities presume him dead.
The case has raised dozens of questions and spans three different states: Kentucky, Tennessee, and Georgia.
Authorities said 20-year-old Justin Sawyer was reported missing from Clarkesville, Tenn. where he had been living on Dec. 17, 2020, according to a Kentucky State Police report.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Friends of Justin Sawyer, who went missing Dec. 17 and is believed to have been killed as part of a robbery, will be holding a candlelight vigil for him on March 13.
The vigil will begin at 4 p.m. at the Cumberland Riverwalk, 540 N. Riverside Drive, and the family asks that attendees bring candles and white balloons.

Sawyer was first reported missing on Dec. 19. On Jan. 5, the Clarksville Police Department announced Sawyer’s car had been recovered.
Investigations led by the Clarksville Police Department and Kentucky State Police resulted in the arrests of three men in early January: Dawuan Davis, 20, of Clarksville; Marquell Devont’e Sims, 22, of Oak Grove, Kentucky; and Gene “Doug” Henry, 36, also of Oak Grove.

CLARKSVILLE, TN (CLARKSVILLE NOW) – Justin Sawyer’s family arrived to a crowded parking lot at Dick’s Sporting Goods in Clarksville on Saturday. Friends, neighbors and strangers alike were ready to help with the search for the remains of the 20-year-old, who went missing Dec. 17 and is suspected to have been killed as part of a robbery gone wrong.
One of the searchers found a blanket that volunteers hope might bring clues to the body’s location.
The search party was coordinated on short notice. It was announced Wednesday by Sawyer’s aunt, Angela Belcher, after police investigators revealed they had exhausted their leads.

The cases against two Oak Grove men charged in connection with the disappearance of a man from Clarksville will be heard by a Christian County Grand Jury following a preliminary hearing Wednesday morning in Christian District Court.
Kentucky State Police Detective Brandon McPherson testified that 20-year old Dawuan Davis and 22-year old Marquell Devont’e Sims of Oak Grove were captured on video surveillance December 17 at the Shell Station on KY 115 in Oak Grove inside a vehicle owned and driven by Justin Tyler Sawyer.
Sims reportedly told state police that they met Sawyer at the Newton Apartments in Oak Grove to purchase marijuana. He said Davis shot Sawyer in one of his legs there and in the other leg at the Shell station.
