The UK’s new Michelin-starred restaurants revealed 26th January, 2021 by Lucy Shaw Helping to smash stereotypes, female chefs led the way in the 2021 Michelin Guide to the UK, with Hélène Darroze and Clare Smyth both scooping three stars. Photo care of World’s 50 Best Restaurants Darroze and Smyth were among the big winners at last night’s virtual ceremony, with Darroze’s recently revamped eponymous restaurant at The Connaught in Mayfair moving up from two to three stars. Smyth’s debut solo venture, Core in Notting Hill, also attained another star, bringing her back up to the three star status she held at Restaurant Gordon Ramsay in Chelsea.

Closures account for majority of deletions in 2021 Michelin Guide

A total of 20 restaurants were demoted or deleted from the Michelin Guide Great Britain & Ireland 2021, many as a result of having closed due to the Coronavirus pandemic. Amid speculation prior to last night s (25 January) virtual ceremony as to whether Michelin would demote any restaurants still operating in light of the ongoing Coronavirus crisis, it has emerged that six restaurants that remain open have lost stars in this year s Guide. Jason Atherton s Social Eat House in Soho and Nordic restaurant Aquavit in St James’s both lost the single stars they respectively held; while Marlon Abela’s Japanese restaurant Umu in Mayfair was demoted from two Michelin stars to one.
