Letter to the Editor: Spending on athletics a cause of Marlington issues

Letter to the Editor: Spending on athletics a cause of Marlington issues The Alliance Review To the Editor: The members of the Marlington board majority are being wrongly labeled as the creators of problems in the district. History shows otherwise. The financial missteps of boards and administrations before them shouldn’t be labeled as their fault. Spending patterns created before their time led to the beginning of a steady decrease in the cash carryover balance. Yes, a lot of money is being invested into our school buildings right now. Major projects at the elementary buildings have piled up over the last 20 years while past boards have tried to pass a levy for a consolidated elementary building.

Letter to the Editor: Marlington Forward ad incorrect on NEXUS fund info

Letter to the Editor: Marlington Forward ad incorrect on NEXUS fund info The Alliance Review To the Editor: Recently, a group opposed to keeping Marlington’s current elementary buildings placed a paid ad in the newspaper. As a regular observer of the Board of Education’s online meetings, I was shocked at the many inaccuracies contained in the ad.   One of those inaccuracies was the claim that “the board majority continues to count on 100% (of NEXUS funds) to pay back loans (for building repairs).” This is blatantly false.  While it is true that 62% of the NEXUS pipeline tax revenue has been challenged and is uncertain to be received, it has been made clear at board meetings that only the unchallenged 38% is being used to fulfill the lease-purchase payments for elementary school repairs.
