More than 2,000 open teaching jobs in South Carolina post-pandemic, leaders discuss future

Some school district leaders across South Carolina met up in Columbia Thursday to discuss the need for more teachers in the state.
“We had a meeting today to discuss monies that are set aside to help districts that are what I consider to be struggling to meet the teacher demand, and it turned out to be a pretty productive meeting,” said Dr. Gregory McCord, the Superintendent of Marlboro County School District. We know that there are over 2,000 vacancies across the state.”
That’s echoed by research collected by the teacher advocacy group, SC for Ed. The group has been collecting the number of open teaching positions across the state.
