Gardnerville man dies in three-car collision on US50 near Zephyr Cove at Lake Tahoe

Photo of the crash scene by Lani Raspen On Sunday, March 7, 2021 at approximately 5:11 p.m., NHP responded to the crash between three vehicles at Douglas County Mile Marker 3 (the curve between Marla Bay and Zephyr Cove). Their investigation shows a silver 2015 Subaru Impreza was eastbound in the right lane on US-50 approaching a green 2001 Toyota Tacoma pickup. The Tacoma was traveling eastbound on US-50 in the left lane. The driver of the Subaru failed to maintain their travel lane and entered the left lane occupied by the Tacoma. The left front of the Subaru struck the right rear of the Tacoma. Both vehicles overturned and entered the westbound travel lanes. The Tacoma landed on the hood of a silver 1999 Toyota Corolla traveling westbound in the right lane.

In five years of data, from Jan. 1, 2014 and Jan. 1, 2019, the road from milepost 2.5 to milepost 3.5 had 62 total crashes, including 1 fatality, 20 injury and 41 property-damage-only crashes. Sunday s fatal crash was near milepost 3.
