Alternative Event Proposals to Mixed Offshore for Paris 2024 Approved by World Sailing’s Council 15th May 2021 A Men’s and Women’s Two Person Dinghy (470) is an alternative proposal for Paris 2024 Credit: World Sailing World Sailing’s Council has approved the Men’s and Women’s Kiteboarding (Formula Kite) and Men’s and Women’s Two Person Dinghy (470) as the first and second alternative event proposals to Mixed Offshore at Paris 2024 following their meeting at the 2021 Mid-Year Meeting. Held yesterday [Friday 14 May] from 0900 - 1500 UTC, the meeting of World Sailing’s Council concluded the Mid-Year Meeting, which also saw the Constitution Committee, Equipment Committee and Events Committee meet earlier on in the week.

COVID-19 has made it very difficult for the global community, and international competition has not been exempt. Huge efforts have been made by event organisers, local and federal governments, class organisers and competitors, demonstrating a huge display of co-operative strength and community in order to continue to run events in these difficult times. 2020 Gran Canaria KiteFoil Open European Championships Day 2 © IKA Media / Alex Schwarz Today is perfect, commented Markus Schwendtner, Class Manager of the IKA, as the riders launched their 11m kites into the warm trade winds as they head out for a day of epic racing here at the stunning location of Playa de las Burras in Gran Canaria, Spain. Winds were between 18-23 knots from the same direction as yesterday, the reliable gradient breeze blowing in from the North East. The first race of the day, Race 4 overall, got under way at 1153 with a clear start, all on starboard. At the top mark, it was Maxime Nocher (FRA) who was in the lead, followed by two Flysurfer kites, Theo de Ramecourt (FRA) and Guy Bridge (GBR). On the downwind, the delta between first and second was slashed, with Theo following Maxime around the right hand-bottom mark close enough to see the hairs raised on the back of Maxime s neck as the riders all headed back towards the beach, which was lined
